North Carolina is all kindsa controversial right now, but what remains incontrovertible is the slamming and brutally low end pummel assault of guitarist Dave “Shep” Shepherd’s riffs, helped along by bassist/singer Dave “Dixie” Collins and drummer Travis Owen, on this here fifth album by the Wilmington, NC bred Weedeater. Will it be a classic? Only time will tell, but I’m enjoying the shimmy sham out of it!
This is the group’s fifth album and, while it pretty much sounds like the previous four – …And Justice for Y’all, Sixteen Tons, God Luck and Good Speed and Jason… the Dragon – it’s not lacking for killer riffs, along with some banjo for good measure.
Last time I saw these crazy, Southern cats, I got so wasted thanks to a bunch of free drinks, I didn’t really see them at all; so much for a two hour drive to Grand Rapids and $15! But, thank Crom they’re coming back to Michigan with Today Is the Day in less than a month!
Take a listen for yourself and tell me what you think!
